Video Transcript:

First of all, you say emotion and feeling, and the context is that’s a bad thing. If I’m in my heart, and I’m feeling all these feelings, and I’m having all these emotions, and I’m sort of a blubbering basket case, that might not be a really nice way to live. And certainly not very respectable; if you’re busy crying in the cafe, everybody may wonder what’s going on over there.

Being vulnerable in the heart doesn’t mean that you have to be crying all over the place. It doesn’t mean that because you feel a strong anger you have to express it, or that if you’re really hurt you have to say, “You really hurt me,” and lay yourself out to be hurt more. Because today, especially in the high schools, this whole mean girl, mean boy thing where you’re vulnerable and people just attack you and put you down, that’s something we didn’t have in my generation. But today it’s very common, and I say that because I have five kids and I’ve gone through that with my children so I’m aware of it.

That being said, being in the heart is kind of like living in a different frequency. In other words, if I’m up in my head, I’m disconnected, I’m in my mind and I’m going to talk to you about some philosophical things that I think about. I’m going to talk to you about Ghandi and peaceful resistance versus aggressive resistance, or something like that. I’m up in my mind talking, but if I bring my awareness down to my heart, as you notice I’m kind of dropping into my heart, everything slows down a little bit, deepens.

It’s like a texture, like I’m almost living in a different texture. And in this place, it’s like I’m present, I’m really present and I’m with you, I feel you and I’m present with you. I’m not talking at you, I’m not talking about something like you’re not even here, I don’t even get you because I’m busy with my own mind, I’m up in this computer world up here.

But when I drop myself down and now I’m with you and I get to really know you – oh, I like you, you’re a nice human being, I like who you are, I like your kindness, I like the beauty in your heart, you know what I mean? You’re a good human being. So, this comes from a feeling sense, it’s a texture, and I find actually that when I’m in my heart, mostly what I see is beauty in people. It really brings out their beauty, because the heart is about love, and it’s about how what I love moves through me.

So, if I look at you and I’m in love, in the love of my heart, I’m going to see what I love about you, and that tends to be how the heart works. It’s the texture, and I feel you, I’m feeling who you are, I can feel everything but I particularly feel the heart, and I feel your heart, and I feel what you feel, what’s important to you, what’s valuable to you, what makes you, you. And that’s an incredibly beautiful experience, it’s like living life from a melody or singing a beautiful song. it’s like you’re living your life and the song all the time, the song of love.
